I hate shopping.
This might be because for most of my life, I've been poor and didn't have any extra cash to spend on stuff, especially on things that weren't strictly necessary.
So I never understood the hype of Black Friday or Cyber Monday, or at least I judged it to be a terrible marketing ploy of big corporations wanting to stuff their own pockets.
And even when I didn't have much money to spend, I have always been drawn to supporting small, local businesses instead of big companies.
Now, we are a small business ourselves.
We hosts retreats at our homestead, teaching people homesteading and wilderness skills.
We teach individual courses at our homestead.
We have online Etsy stores, selling our handmade goat milk soaps, handspun yarn, knitted accessories, cheese presses, and traditional wooden bows.

Beautiful work and I agree 100% with supporting local people at the grass roots. I mean when you think about it though when you shop at WalMart you are supporting local people who work there so I'm not against that totally but I really prefer to go straight to the maker. Wouldn't it be great to be able to buy the WalMart items straight from the Chinese factory workers? Like a little kiosk out front of the gi-normous factory?
ReplyDeleteI'm almost out of your wonderful soap so I'll go over to Etsy. Your knitted items are amazing, too. I am in awe of someone who can knit without making weird mistakes and keep up the correct tension so the stitches are even.

Do you have a record of the soap "flavor" I bought last time? That was so lovely and I don't see it on Etsy.
ReplyDeleteOh darn, no, I don't know what scent you bought last time. There's no record because it wasn't through Etsy. I have a bunch in my shop, so just see what appeals to you!
