Ever since I was a little kid, I wanted to be a published author. I loved writing, and on my long, solitary walks in the German countryside, I wrote snippets of stories in my head. When I was 17, one of my short stories about a sea gull in an oil spill won a country-wide writing competition and was published in a book. I also won 1,000 German Marks, which was a lot of money for a teenager, totally blew my mind and made me wonder if I could actually earn money with my writing (Ha! One can dream...)
Last week, it happened again! I'm talking about the publishing part, not the 1,000 German Marks, unfortunately.
I published my book on Amazon, and it is now available in Kindle format! (Hint: The sentence on the left is clickable and will take you straight to my book.)
Wait, let me just get off the computer and jump up and down for a sec!
Phew, I'm back. Can you tell I'm excited?
And I should be. I worked hard on that sucker. I'm charging $4.99 for it. If you know someone who might like this book, you should tell them about it, or buy it for them (See the "share" buttons below this post? Yep, them. They're handy for forwarding and sharing on Facebook and other social media). I paid $250 to have my book put in Kindle format, so at $4.99 it might take me a while to break even! Click here to buy it.
Here is the writeup on Amazon:
"In this book, you will learn how to make Gouda cheese and consistently produce a beautiful wheel every time. The author, a native German artisan cheesemaker, has taught hundreds of people how to make Gouda cheese - both in person on her homestead and also in her online cheesemaking courses. She will hold your hand every step of the whey, ahhh, way, and take you through the process step-by-step.
The book includes lots of pictures and also gives you access to her exclusive demonstration movie filmed in her kitchen. The 23-minute long movie will make it seem like you are making cheese in the kitchen with the author.
You will learn exactly what ingredients and equipment you need. The links in this book are all clickable, so you can conveniently shop for your ingredients right from the digital book!
The author passes along many tricks and tips you usually don't read about in cheesemaking books. For example, she teaches you how to make your own cheese press for less than $10 instead of buying an expensive one.
This book will teach you exactly when and how to cut the curds, which when done incorrectly can turn cheese into a disaster.
It also explains how to press your cheese, how to age it, and how to properly store it so you can show it off to friends and relatives.
The book includes a chapter on trouble shooting and resources as well.
One great perk included in this book is access to the author's Facebook cheesemaking community, where you can interact with other aspiring cheesemakers and the author herself."
PS: Once the $250 Kindle formatting is paid for, the money earned on this book will go towards buying feed for our livestock. So if you do consider buying it, our goats, pigs, ducks and chickens will thank you as well!

ReplyDeleteNow if my goaties would just pop those babies out so I can get back to milking. We're on day 140, I think, so the fun is imminent.
Yippie, goat babies! They'll come soon. I always have to remind myself: a watched pot never boils, and a hovered-over goat never gives birth, since that's what I do: hover when birth is imminent. My goats are probably totally annoyed at me!
